When I look back at my quilting journey, it all starts with one very special piece: my very first quilt.
I didn’t set out to make anything fancy. I just knew I wanted to create something warm, cozy, and handmade. I gathered a small stack of fabrics that spoke to me—[my favorite green floral squares]—and laid them out on the table, not really sure what I was doing yet, but excited to begin.
The early steps were… interesting. I measured twice (and sometimes still cut wrong), unpicked more seams than I care to admit, and learned very quickly that an iron is just as important as a sewing machine. My lines weren’t perfectly straight, and some corners refused to match up, but each block felt like a tiny victory.
What surprised me most was how quilting made me feel. As I stitched, I found a rhythm. The world felt a little quieter, and my mind settled into the simple, steady work of guiding fabric under the needle. That quilt became more than just a project—it was proof that I could learn something new, one step at a time.
When I finally finished the binding and spread the quilt out for the first time, I saw every mistake—and loved it anyway. Every wonky seam and slightly crooked line told the story of a beginner who kept going. That first quilt may not be “perfect,” but it’s priceless to me.
That quilt is the reason T’s Quilty Corner exists today. It reminded me how powerful handmade things can be, and how much joy there is in creating something from scratch. Here on this blog, I’ll be sharing more stories like this, along with tips, projects, and inspiration for your own quilting journey—no perfection required.
Thank you for reading the story of my first quilt. If you’ve made (or want to make) your first quilt too, I hope you’ll stick around—I can’t wait to share more stitches and stories with you.
